NZ Medical Journal retracts deeply flawed fish oil paper
We are delighted to advise that the NZ Medical Journal has responded to our concerns by retracting the deeply flawed fish oil paper published late last week: Are over-the-counter fish oil supplements safe, effective and accurate with labelling? Analysis of 10 New Zealand fish oil supplements, authored by Julia J Rucklidge, Shelby Hantz and Ian C Shaw.
As you can see in our letter below, we are asking for a public apology and for the NZ Medical Association to try and get the news media to remove all articles relating to the initial publicity about the paper. Naturally we will also be making our own efforts to this effect if we find that erroneous media articles remain on-line. We will also be looking at what further media engagement could be taken in relation to this issue.
